SIKESTON -- Nearly 9 million Americans had serious thoughts about committing suicide over the past year, according to a federal report.

"If you ask the general public, most people will know someone who has completed suicide," said Angela Lutmer, licensed professional counselor and coordinator of crisis services for Bootheel Counseling Services in Sikeston. "We get calls every day of people having suicidal thoughts or from family members of those contemplating suicide."
