Sikeston tennis falls on the road to Kennett, 9-0

KENNETT -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs tennis team dropped a 9-0 match on the road to Kennett Thursday.

"A couple of our top-6 ranked players missed our match today, which meant everyone had to play up in rank," Sikeston tennis coach Russ Dial said. "Under the circumstances, they stood up to the challenge."

Sikeston will be back at home Monday when they host Charleston at 4 p.m.

Scott City 1, Delta 0

SCOTT CITY -- Lifted by a game-winning single from Bella Bowers on Thursday, the Scott City Lady Rams defeated the Delta Lady Bobcats 1-0.

Bowers drove in Macey Hall with a single in what proved to be the only run of the game.

Alexis Spriggs went all seven innings giving up four hits without surrendering a walk and striking out 11 in the her win inside the circle.

Valerie Bahr had the team's only extra-base hit, a double.

Scott City (6-8) will finish up the Notre Dame Softballfest, which was postponed due to rain, this weekend at Kelso with another contest against Delta at 9 a.m.

Van Buren 2, Chaffee 1

VAN BUREN -- Surrendering a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on Thursday, the Chaffee Lady Red Devils fell 2-1 to host Van Buren.

Chaffee had just taken the lead in the top of fifth on a solo home run by Cierra Crites before Van Buren took control.

Crites solo shot proved to be the Lady Devils' lone hit in the contest.

Chaffee (6-10) will participate in Notre Dame Softballfest this weekend.
