Sikeston Standard Democrat: High School Sports: Dexter earns first win with 26-7 victory over winless Kennett (09/22/12)

DEXTER -- The Dexter Bearcats earned their first win of the season on Friday, knocking off winless Kennett 26-7.

After a scoreless first quarter, Dexter quarterback DJ Dowdy scored on a 2-yard scamper midway through the second quarter to give the Bearcats a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Jonathan Foels scored from seven yards out to open scoring in the third quarter, giving Dexter a 13-0 lead.

Kennett (0-5) answered with a 26-yard run from Declan Wallace to trim the Bearcat lead to 13-7. But Dexter scored just 18 seconds later when Ryan Joyner raced 56 yards to paydirt, making the score 19-7.

Dexter added another score in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard plunge from Dowdy.

The win marks the 13th-straight time Dexter (1-4) has beaten Kennett.
