Prep soccer: Bulldogs tie school record with 11th shutout of the season

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

JACKSON -- Tying the school record for shutouts set just last season, the Sikeston Bulldogs blanked the Jackson Indians 2-0 on Tuesday.

In the 22nd minute of the contest, Gavin O'Brien gave the Bulldogs the lead when he followed up a Brandon Goodwin shot that bounced off the keeper with a header into the net.

Giving Sikeston some insurance, Zach Harrison scored at the 65th minute with Caleb Hampton earning an assist.

"Once again, our defense was the unsung hero," Sikeston head coach Doyle Noe said. "For the first 15-20 minutes, Jackson really controlled the game but we made some plays on defense."

The win puts the Bulldogs at 12-4 on the year and undefeated, at 3-0, in conference play with a chance to win their first ever conference title.

It is the first time that Sikeston has beat Cape Central, Notre Dame and Jackson all in the same season.

On the junior varsity side, Sikeston and Jackson played to a 0-0 tie.

The Bulldogs will be off until Monday when they head to Fredericktown.
