Benny Evans

ORAN -- Benny J. Evans, 71, died Sept. 25, 2012, at his home.

Born May 2, 1941, in Morley, to the late Ralph Samuel and Geraldine Fowler Evans, he was mayor of Oran from 1976 to 1978. He was a retired self-employed truck driver, owner of a furniture store in Oran and a member of Trinity Gospel Church in Sikeston.

On Aug. 17, 1959, he married Diane Hanna, and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Tracy and Cindy Evans of Oran and Ethan and Beth Evans of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Keith Chapman of Oran; two brothers, Don Evans and Ed Evans of Oran; a sister, Linda Taylor of Benton; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Len Myers officiating.

Burial will follow in New Morley Cemetery at Morley.
