BENTON -- Rufus Roy "Sonny" Sanford Jr., 77, died Sept. 30, 2012, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Jan. 15, 1935, in Ancell, son of the late Rufus Roy and Ethel Angelyn Stone Sanford Sr., he was a self-employed carpenter for the past 20 years.
On March 26, 1953, he married Shirley Elaine Fry who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: six sons and five daughters-in-law, Adam and Debbie Sanford and Jerry Sanford of Cape Girardeau, Roger and Mona Sanford and David and Crystal Sanford of Jackson, Ronald and Krista Sanford of St. Louis and Danny and Missy Sanford of Benton; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Anita and Lynn Sides and Margaret and Rodney Seabaugh of Jackson, Carol and Rick Coomer of Shawneetown, Mary and Ronnie Mansker and Lisa Cox of Cape Girardeau and Theresa Sanford of Benton; a brother, Paul Sanford of Golconda, Ill.; and 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Klingel, two
sons, James "Jim" Sanford and Rufus Sanford III, two brothers, Roger Sanford and William Sanford, and three sisters, Dortha Sanford, Joyce Shumpert and Verna Mae Kelly.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Jack Owens officiating.
Burial will follow in Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City.
