Fall color peak could come early this year

SIKESTON -- It's still early to tell, but fall color in Southeast Missouri may not be as dreary as others are anticipating.

"I think the general consensus is that this year will not be as good because of the drought ... but my feeling is let's not count our chickens yet," said Rocky Hayes, urban forester for Missouri Department of Conservation's Southeast Regional Office.

The peak of fall color in Missouri is usually mid-October, the Missouri Department of Conservation said.
