SIKESTON -- Donald Dewayne Self, age 55, died on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at his home in Sikeston.
He was born Oct. 25, 1956, in Kennett, to Don and Jerrolyn Pritchett Self. He was a member and deacon of Miner Baptist Church and also coached his sons' baseball teams and taught Sunday School classes for many years. He was an avid golfer and hunter, a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather and friend to many. He was employed by United Parcel Service for 26 years.
On Oct. 7, 1978, he married Wendy Baker who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by: two sons and daughters-in-law, Jared and Kaci Self of Sikeston and Brent and Heather Self of Ironton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kevin and Beverly Self and Brian and Dana Self all of Sikeston; one sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Darryl Griggs of Sikeston; and five grandchildren Nolan Self, Emma-Claire Self, Heidi Self, Sam Self and Heath Self.
He was preceded in death by one son, William Heath Self, on April 28, 2004.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at Miner Baptist Church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mitch Jackson, pastor of Miner Baptist Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Chris Huddleston, Ryan Griggs, Meyer Neel, Drew Williams, Lee Williams, Garrett Self, Nate Self and Nolan Self.
