BENTON -- Scott County will use two contractors but only one supply vendor for renovations to county facilities.
Presiding Commissioner Jamie Burger said during the regular County Commission meeting Tuesday that both contracting firms which submitted bids for doing general construction projects for the county will have projects to work on.
"It's quite a bit of work," Burger said. "And they have both done good work for the county in the past."
Burger said county officials are hoping that by using both contractors, the projects can be finished by the end of the year.
S and L Builders of Commerce was awarded remodeling work on the county's 911 center, the county jail's kitchen and at the building recently purchased across the street from the courthouse.
While some might still think of the county jail as the "new jail," Burger noted the facility is now a 12-year-old building that has been inhabited on a daily basis by 100 or more inmates.
Commissioners plan to use the recently-acquired building for public administrator office space and storage once it is remodeled. Additional space is also available for future use.
