ESSEX -- Lloyd E. Pope, 87, died Oct. 3, 2012, at his home.
Born July 5, 1925, to the late Benjamin Franklin Pope and Lillie Caroline Hale Pope, he was a member of the Olive Branch Church near Essex and was employed by the J.P. Ross Cotton Company in Frisco. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific on the USS Custer.
On Oct. 24, 1946, in Piggott, Ark., he married Mae Treadway who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Deb Pope of Dexter; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dennis Wilson of Dexter; one brother, Floyd Pope, of St. Louis; and three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Adam Lee Pope and Clarence "Pete" Pope, and two sisters, May Miller and Dorothy Padgett.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Burial will follow at the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery in Dexter.
