SIKESTON -- Vernon Vanover, age 74, died Oct. 3, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau unexpectedly following surgery.
Born June 25, 1938, in Sikeston, son of the late R.V. and Trecie Latham Vanover, he was a truck driver for Tucker Truck Lines, Inman Freight Lines and Roadway Truck Lines before retiring. Mr. Vanover's final act was to give the gift of life through organ/tissue donation.
He is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Sue Heaton III of Port Byron, Ill.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherry Vanover of Sikeston and Shelia and Mark Rennier of Matthews; one brother, Theral Vanover of Puxico; six grandchildren, Ben Ray of Matthews and Eric Heaton, Misty Heaton, Marshall Heaton, Stacy Heaton and Lisa Heaton of Moline, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Richard Tyler Vanover, two brothers, Olen Ardell Vanover and Edward Dale Vanover, and two sisters, Vireda J. Vanover and Barbara C. Vanover.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Ponder Funeral Home where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8. The Rev. Joe McCullough, pastor of Fellowship Baptist, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
