SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Department of Public Safety will continue to provide fire protection for the Sikeston Fire Protection District -- as long as the figures work out.

The Sikeston City Council approved a renewed contract with the Sikeston Fire Protection District during the regular monthly Council meeting Thursday but with a dissenting vote from Councilman Tom Hedrick.

DPS Director Drew Juden said the city receives a cent for every $100 of property value within the District, which worked out to $4,685.37 for this year, and an annual base fee of $10,000.
