Briefly: NMCC handled by defending state champs, 40-0

NEW MADRID -- Valle fought both NMCC and the weather Friday night, and won handsomely.

The two-time defending Class 1 state champions shutout the Eagles 40-0 behind a five touchdown performance from quarterback Nolan Wood at New Madrid County Central High School within a winter-like atmosphere.

Wood threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns as well as ran for another 107 and two touchdowns.

NMCC (2-5) was out-gained in yards 400-133 and committed four turnovers.

Starting with a 30-yard pass to Tyler Fallert, Wood completed a 7-yard touchdown throw to Trevor Klump to give Valle a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

Touchdown runs of seven and one extended their lead to 28. A 40-yard strike to Justin Roth put the Warriors (7-1) ahead 34-0 before the half.

Fallert also ran for 101 yards on 13 carries.

The Eagles were led by quarterback Jashawn McDaniel who passed for 46 yards on three completions and ran for a team-high 30 yards.
