POTOSI -- Kelsey Dial will try one more time for a trip to the state tennis tournament.
Dial defeated Dexter's Bailey Cooper 7-5 and 6-2 during the Class 1, District 1 singles championship for her second straight district championship in as many years.
Dial breezed through her first two matches of the individual district tournament winning straight sets against both Dexter's Taylor Owens (6-0, 6-0) and Kennett's Alexa McPherson (6-1, 6-1).
She faced a bit of adversity during the first set of the championship match against Cooper falling to, at one point, 4-5. But, Dial adjusted and won the next two games.
"She made adjustments both mentally and strategically," Russ Dial said. "Mentally, she had to be reminded to keep emotions in check and forget about past errors that caused her to loose the lead. Strategically she adjusted well to the balls falling in her front court by hitting to the open side instead of back to her opponent."
Once those adjustments stuck for her, Dial continued through the match and pulled out the second set 6-2.
Dial will go head to head against North County's Buse Beker during the Class 1, Sectional 1 singles tournament in Potosi today at 4 p.m. If Dial wins, she will advance to the state tournament in Springfield on Oct. 18.
