ORAN -- Howard L. Stevens, 77, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee.
He was born July 27, 1935, in Scopus, to the late George Pinkney and Hester Zeda Welch Stevens.
On March 2, 1957, he married Yvonne M. Cook, and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2009.
He worked as a supervisor at International Hat Factory in Oran until 1977 and he then was chief of police for the city of Oran until retirement. He was a member for many years at Life Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Oran and a member of Greater Vision Pentecostal Church in Chaffee.
Survivors include: three daughters, Linda (Roger) Morrett of Oran, Connie (Don) Biri of Cape Girardeau and Becky Stevens of Oran; one brother, Odell (Margie) Stevens of Marble Hill; three sisters, Louise Ladd of Oran, Mary (Milford) Kirn of Jackson and Sherry Brown of Marble Hill; two grandsons, Michael Stevens of Oran and Brian Biri of Cape Girardeau; and one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Biri of Jackson.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Victory Life United Pentecostal Church in Oran with the Rev. Robert Poe officiating assisted by the Rev. Brian Flannigan.
Burial will follow at Friend Cemetery in Oran.
