CHARLESTON -- Maureen Catherine McCarthy Carman, 70, of Charleston, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at the Charleston Manor.

Born Jan. 6, 1942, in St. Louis, to the late Vincent and Kathryn Bennett McCarthy, she graduated from Ritenour High School in Overland and continued her education at the Barnes Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1962. She was employed for 13 years at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, where she served as a secretary for 10 years, as an academic advisor and later was the advising coordinator of the Harrison College of Business. She retired in 2000 and continued to volunteer as the secretary of the Newman Center at the University. She later worked as a part-time secretary at the St. Henry Catholic School in Charleston and was a member of the St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston.

On Oct. 20, 1962, she married Ernest Carman, who survives of Charleston.

Also surviving are: one son and daughter--in-law, Bill and Lana Carman of Cape Girardeau; one daughter, Lisa Stallings of Charleston; and six grandchildren, Stephen Carman, David Carman and Troy Carman of Cape Girardeau and Catherine Stallings, Mollina Stallings and Frank Stallings of Charleston.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jeff Stallings.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where parish prayers will be recited at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the St. Henry Catholic Church. Monsignor Richard Rolwing of Cape Girardeau and the Rev. Patrick Ike Nwokoye, campus minister of the Newman Center in Cape Girardeau, will serve as the celebrants.

Interment will follow in the Texas Bend Cemetery near Charleston with the McMikle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be: Anthony Ohmes, David Carman, John Carman, Robert Carman, Tim Harvell and Joe Dark.
