CHAFFEE --James Thomas "J.T." Cotner, 91, died Nov. 2, 2012, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.
Born April 15, 1921, in Pocahontas, to the late Guy H. and Carrie Sides Cotner, he was a 1938 graduate of Central High School in Cape Girardeau and coached Little League and Babe Ruth teams in Chaffee. In 1994, he was inducted into the SEMO Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in Sikeston. He retired as a mechanic for Ely-Walker in Illmo and Murphsboro, Ill., Bukstein Mfg. Co., Harts Schaffner and Marx and Thorngate Ltd. in Chaffee. He was a member of the Chaffee American Legion Post 389, served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1946 and was an active member of the Chaffee UMC where he served on the nominating committee.
On Feb. 20, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, he married Arlene Mae Jones and she preceded him in death on April 13, 2009.
Survivors include two sons, Lynn and Jan Cotner of Jackson and Larry Cotner of Miami; two stepsisters; two granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Chaffee with the Rev. Richard Combs officiating assisted by the Rev. Gwenell Streeter.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, MO.
