SIKESTON -- While the future of healthcare is to be determined by today's election results, employees of the city of Sikeston face less out-of-pocket healthcare expense for the next year at least.

The Sikeston City Council voted during their regular monthly meeting Monday to accept an option offered by Anthem to increase premiums by 2.63 percent for a plan which lowers the deductible.

A renewal of the current plan, which has a deductible of $2,000 for an individual and $4,000 for a family, was offered with no increase while the budget for this fiscal year included funding for a 15-percent increase in premiums.
