SIKESTON -- Some of Sikeston's youngest Americans paid tribute to veterans with a musical program Thursday at Southeast Elementary.

Under the direction of music teacher Judy Leigh, over 100 first graders at the Sikeston school recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang for the veterans, friends, family members and school staff during the afternoon program in the school's cafeteria.

"It was a lot of work, but these kids did a marvelous job," Leigh said after the program. "We're so thankful for the veterans and for the honor for which the children were able to show and thank them."

Song selections included: "This is America," "I Love My Country," "When the Flag Goes By," "Armed Forces Salute," "Allegiance Rap," "America" and "You Are Our Heroes."
