SIKESTON -- Make it a point today to personally thank a veteran.
Expressing gratitude for the service and sacrifices made by those in the country's armed forces was a recurring theme during Sikeston's annual Veterans Day ceremony held Friday morning at the Sikeston Senior High School Field House.
Lt. Caleb Daughhettee, guest speaker for the ceremony, said someone who wants to help ensure freedom doesn't necessarily need to join the service or even agree with what the military does.
"All you need to do is thank a veteran," Daughhettee said. "Remember the sacrifices they have given for you."
The ceremony opened with the presentation and posting of colors by the Sikeston National Guard unit.
