SIKESTON -- James A. Armstrong, 89, died at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 9, 2012, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Born Sept. 28, 1923, in Brighton, Tenn., to the late Grover and Lora Glass Armstrong, he had since 1979 been a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a gunners mate in the U.S. Navy and during World War ll serving in the South Pacific Theater from January 1943 until January 1946 and in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

On May 16, 2002, in Benton, he married Mable Hopper who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Judy Armstrong of Sikeston; and one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Ted Wimberley of New Bethel Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery

Pallbearers will be: Micheal King, Derek Lefler, Jamie Parker, Carl Bone, Ronnie Hall and Mike Hodgkiss.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Justin Hawkins, Gary Graham and James Hopper.
