ORAN -- Helen C. Wright Harris, 99, of Oran passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee.
Born Oct. 13, 1913, in Oran, to the late Mack and Ethel Henley Wright, Helen was a housewife, babysat for many years and took care of several children that she loved dearly. She graduated from Oran High School in 1931.
Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oran and Darcus Sunday School Class. She also served as treasurer of Golden Agers Senior Group and was a member of Morley Chapter Eastern Star No. 342 serving as worthy matron in 1965. She was also secretary for 20 years and past president for 15 years for Oran Senior Citizens.
On Dec. 23, 1932, she married John Melton Harris who preceded her in death Aug. 25, 1979.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, John Wright.
Survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wesley and Barbara Harris and Glen Harris of Oran; one sister, Lila Brannock of Sikeston; four grandchildren and their spouses, Niki Jo and David Hamm of Benton, Robin and Mark Hill of Gordonville, Missy and Derrick Bruce of Scott City and Jason Harris of Oran; five great-grandchildren and their spouses, Candice and Eric O'Hare of Jackson, Carmen and Josh Diebold of Oran, Zachary and Sara Hamm of Huntsville, Ala., and Kalyn Bruce and Keegan Bruce of Scott City; and two great-great-grandchildren, Tate Diebold of Oran and Hudson O'Hare of Jackson.
Services were conducted today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran with the Rev. Donnie Ford officiating.
Burial followed at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley.
