SIKESTON -- Charlotte Jean McGahey Johnson, 79, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Friday Nov. 16, 2012, at her home.
Born Sept. 15, 1933, in New Madrid to the late Hazel Mac and Virginia McGahey, she graduated from Sikeston Senior High School in 1951 and then from Southeast Missouri State University where she later went back for her master's degree.
Her dream was to teach school and so she did: at Bertrand, Gray Ridge, Airport and Southeast Elementary for 38 years. She received the Outstanding Employee Award in 1989.
Charlotte worked with Girl Scouts and was active in the Delta Kappa Gamma; Tanner Street Church of God, where she taught Sunday School and kept a church history book; and Women of the Church of God.
On Aug. 8, 1953, she married F.E. "Gene" Johnson who preceded her in death.
In addition to her her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant sister.
She is survived by: a daughter, Susan Duncan; two grandchildren, Chris Davidson and Laura and Brad Couch; three great-grandchildren, Katalina Couch, Kailey Couch and Jackson Couch; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday Nov. 19 at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston where services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 20.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.
