CONRAN -- Nuchel Eugene "Pete" Townsend, 87, died Nov. 21, 2012, at Jackson, Tenn.

Born Aug. 11, 1925, in Sidon, Ark., to the late John and Rebecca Haney Townsend, he was a lifelong member of the First Church of God where he served as custodian. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a maintenance engineer with the U.S. Army.

On Aug. 8, 1947, in Piggott, Ark., he married Mildred Ray who preceded him in death Oct. 25, 2005.

He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Edward Townsend, Millard Townsend, Dillard Townsend, Fletcher Townsend, Jackie Townsend and Alfred Townsend and a sister, Elva Vires.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Vicki Townsend of Marston and Ronnie Allen and Sue Townsend of New Madrid; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marsha and David Christian of Portageville and Patricia Ann Townsend of Jackson; two brothers, Issac Townsend of Kirkwood and Donnie Townsend of Mobile, Ala.; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at First Church of God with the Rev. Frank Townsend and Bob Kespelher, pastor, officiating.
