EAST PRAIRIE -- Surrounded by her loved ones, Maribeth closed her eyes on earth and opened them in heaven at 8:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012.
Born May 2, 1957, to Jack Achter, who survives, and the late Patsy Grogan, Maribeth married her soul mate, Clay, on March 22, 1980. After 32 years of marriage, they still enjoyed spending evenings on their porch swing. It could be said that laughter was truly the language they shared.
He is left to cherish her memories with their two daughters and one son-in-law, Tricia and John Dodge and Jamie Haines of East Prairie; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Lisa Beyerbach of Dyersburg, Tenn.; one sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Rick Givens of East Prairie; and eight grandchildren, Tyler, Lexi, Bri, Ethan, Garrett, Cody, Katelyn and J.C.
It's hard not to crack a smile when thinking about Maribeth, even in this time of intense sorrow. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Her joy was visible by the twinkle in her eyes when she was with each one of them. The highlight of her day was an evening at the sports complex watching each one of them play.
Maribeth worked many years at Stark's Manufacturing until it closed. She next left her mark on all who knew her as a bookkeeper at Citizen's Bank in Charleston. Maribeth had a strong desire to work, even when her body was so frail, and her coworkers enabled her to do so as they surrounded her with love and comfort of an extended family.
Her church family at East Prairie's First Christian Church gave Maribeth and her family love and strength through their constant prayers. Mark Ford and Martin Lucas made many special visits to share prayers and support.
The love of all who surrounded her was simply a reflection of the blessing and love she gave each of us. Her strength, bravery, love and fighting spirit gave her family such pride and humility as she showed us by her life how to live and die.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday Nov. 29 in the Shelby Chapel with Mark Ford and Martin Lucas officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie with the Shelby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
