JEFFERSON CITY -- Eight months after a $656 million Mega Millions jackpot set a world lottery record, Powerball is offering up a $500 million prize that would be the second highest.
"Powerball is back in serious dream territory," said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery, in a news release. "But, we want to remind all of our players to play within their means. In the end, it only takes one ticket to win."
Reardon noted that Powerball changes made in January have delivered what lottery officials expected: bigger jackpots.
