MOREHOUSE -- Violetta Mae Adams McKnight, age 77, of Morehouse, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at 4:50 p.m. at her home, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born July 22, 1935, in Whitewater, to the late Walter Adams and Vivian Faulkerson Adams Wimberley, she was a homemaker and member of the First General Baptist Church of Morehouse. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Carl Edward McKnight of the home, whom she married on Oct. 11, 1951.

Violetta leaves behind her five children, Paula McKnight, Carletta Joan Hemphill, Linda Slade and Steven McKnight, all of Morehouse; and Carl (Pamela) McKnight Jr. of Prairieville, La.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters and their spouses, Loyd (Shirley) Adams of Morehouse, June (James) Young of Houston, Homer (Bobbie) Adams of Mondon, Mich., Floyd (Jan) Adams of Bloomfield, Barbara Wimberley of Crestview, Fla., and Carl Wayne Wimberley of Gonzales, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special acknowledgment is given to Rose Cochran, for the loving care she provided to Violetta for the past 12 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Adams, Gene Adams and Walter Adams; and two grandsons, Paul Thomas and Carl "C.J." McKnight.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at noon Friday, Nov. 30 at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Thomas, pastor of the First General Baptist Church of Morehouse, officiating.

Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
