Sikeston's junior high roll to wins

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston ninth grade basketball team defeated the visiting Notre Dame Bulldogs 64-30 on Wednesday in Sikeston.

Cedric McIntyre led Sikeston's efforts with 12 points and Dominique Dyes added 11. Deterio Newman chipped in 10 while Earnest Fobbs and Jaylen Mallory each scored eight.

Ross Essner paced Notre Dame with 10 points.

Sikeston crept out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter. It didn't take long for Sikeston to take over, however, as they busted through with a 34-12 advantage at the half.

Seventh Grade Invitational

Sikeston 66, Jackson 42

SIKESTON -- In the first round of the Sikeston Seventh Grade Invitational Tournament, the host team rolled to a 66-42 win over Jackson Wednesday night.

With the win, Sikeston advanced to the championship game against Cape Central at 6:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 25-12 advantage after the first quarter and never looked back. They led 43-25 at halftime.

Fred Thatch led Sikeston with 23 points. Austin Branch, behind four 3-pointers, scored another 20. Bryce Bays added 11.

Both Sikeston and Cape Central stand at 4-0 on the season heading into the title game. Poplar Bluff and Jackson will play for third place at 5 p.m.
