Mrs. Bodine and her husband, Thomas, have established a scholarship at the University of Missouri-Columbia in memory of Sam Bodine. NEW MADRID - Sam Bodine loved education.

He filled almost every role possible in local school systems from coach to teacher to superintendent and vocational director. When an opening came up, he sought out the top teachers to fill the spot, then encouraged them to improve their skills. From his students, he expected them to give their best every day.

Now, thanks to the generosity of his family, Bodine's name will continue to be linked to education, enabling Southeast Missouri students to continue to grow and learn.
