Sikeston falls to Scott City in Lady Devil Classic

CHAFFEE -- After holding the Lady Rams to a tie through the opening quarter, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs were outscored in two of the final three quarters to fall 39-33 during the first round of the Lady Devil Classic in Chaffee.

Outscoring Sikeston 13-5 in the second quarter, Scott City was able to open a 25-17 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs went on an 8-4 run in the third frame to close their deficit to four, but were outpaced 10-8 in the final frame.

Aleah Little led Sikeston with eight points while Michala Nichols scored seven.

Abbie McAlister led Scott City (1-2) with 11 points, while teammate Natalie Woods added 10.

Rebekah Douglas scored nine of her game-high 22 points in the third period as East Prairie took down the tourney's second-seeded team.

Machela VanGennip scored 19 points for Delta, including 11 in the second period.

Delta will play the loser of Wednesday¹s final first-round game between Kelly and Chaffee in Thursday's consolation semifinals.

Woodland outscored Oran 19-10 in the second quarter on its way to a 52-37 victory.

Addie Kielhofner led Oran with 12 points while Allison Cummins and Taylor Nenninger had 11 and eight points respectively. Woodland, the top seed in the tournament, advances to play Scott City in a semifinal at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Oran faces Sikeston in a consolation semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
