SIKESTON -- Although they were down 19 points at halftime, the Notre Dame Bulldogs didn't let that deter their efforts of pulling off a minor, first round upset.
The fifth-seeded Bulldogs stormed out of halftime to do just that as they defeated Jackson, the fourth seed, 64-59, during the first round of the SEMO Conference Tournament at the Sikeston Field House.
Staring at a 40-21 disadvantage after the first half, Notre Dame caused numerous turnovers and made the most out of Jackson's missed opportunities to slowly climb back into the game.
A bucket by Jordan Barber, who finished with 15 points, put the Bulldogs ahead for the first time since two minutes into the first quarter at 51-50 with just under six minutes to go. At one point, Notre Dame held Jackson to just 10 points in a 13 minute span. Notre Dame finally caught the Indians and tied the game at 54-all.
Notre Dame eventually took a 59-56 lead and never relinquished it.
Notre Dame's Quinn Poythress put up 12 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter alone.
The Indians were led by Karson King's 16.
Notre Dame will face the tournament's top seed, Charleston, Thursday in the semifinals at 7 p.m.
Jackson will take on eighth seeded Dexter tonight at 6 p.m. in the consolation semifinals.
