BENTON -- Doye Carthur Smith, 68, formerly of Sikeston, died Dec. 6, 2012, at his home.

Born Nov. 22, 1944, in Charleston, to the late Lonnie and Jeannie Craig Smith, he worked in construction and was a member of the Henry Meldrum American Legion Post, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Sikeston Eagles Club.

He is survived by: his fiancee, Mary Burke of Charleston; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Doye R. and Michelle Smith of Dexter and Brent M. Smith and Matthew and Christina Smith of Cape Girardeau; five daughters, Lisa Walker of Silver Springs, Md., Teresa Merrick of Bernie, Shannon Walker of Charleston and Tracy Travis and Bethany Smith of Dexter; one brother, Thomas Daniel Smith of Wyatt; and 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Troy Smith, and two sisters, Joann Evans and Sally Smith.

Visitation will be held from noon until time of services at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ponder Funeral Home. The Rev. Betty Ware, pastor of Power House of God, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston.
