NMCC handles Doniphan, Risco takes third in Clarkton Holiday tourney

DONIPHAN -- The New Madrid County Central Eagles defeated Doniphan 61-40 Friday.

Sophomore Willie Jimerson had another strong outing scoring a game-high 28 points to lead the Eagles.

NMCC led 19-13 after the first quarter and eventually held a 34-20 lead at halftime. The Eagles never trailed again.

Armondo Thatch scored nine points for the Eagles while Delontre Haney added eight.

The New Madrid County Central junior varsity also took home a win, 56-33.

Chris Farr led the Eagles with 18 points. Vontre Jones scored and additional 14 in NMCC's win.

Risco 77, Clarkton 44

CLARKTON -- The Risco Tigers ended up placing third in the Clarkton Holiday Tournament after defeating the host school, Clarkton Reindeer, 77-44.

Risco's Jordon Pavy scored a game-high 37 points, including four 3-pointers, in the win.

Josh Earnheart added 11 points for the Tigers, who are now 4-4 on the season.

Clarkton was led by Antron Jones' 13 points.

Risco will be off until Jan. 4 when they travel to Leopold for a Class 1 showdown.

Gosnell, Ark., ended up winning the Clarkton tournament over Piggott, Ark.

SCOTT CITY -- The Scott City Rams lost a close contest to Advance Friday, 63-56.

Jesse Sanders led the Rams' efforts with 17 points. Trent Pobst chipped in another 16 while Ryan Brock added 12.

Malden 74, South Pemiscot 70

STEELE - The Malden Green Wave varsity boys basketball team defeated the South Pemiscot Bulldogs 74-70 Friday night.

Romello McCoy paced Malden with 27 points. Malik Perkins tallied 22 points and Cortez Dobbins added 17 more for the Green Wave.

Seth Harris led South Pemiscot with 22 points. Deshawn Pruitt added 13 points.

Malden was 28 of 48 from 2-point range and 2 of 6 from 3-point range. South Pemiscot was 1 of 10 from 3-point range and 26 of 45 from 2-point range.

Malden's record improves to 4-3 with the victory. The Green Wave are 1-1 in regular-season Bootheel Conference play.

South Pemiscot's record drops to 6-3 with the loss. South Pemiscot is 1-2 in regular-season Bootheel Conference play.

Clever 75, SCC 48

BRANSON -- The Scott County Central Braves are participating in the Ozark Mountain Shootout in Branson this weekend and their first matchup didn't go their way.

The Braves lost to Clever 75-48 Friday night.

Clever, a Class 3 school, remains undefeated at 8-0.

Scott Central (3-4) played Billings, the defending Class 2 state champion from a season ago, Saturday.

Results from that game will be in the Monday edition of the Standard Democrat.

Oak Ridge 77, East Prairie 50

OAK RIDGE -- The East Prairie Eagles were defeated by Oak Ridge 77-50 Friday at Oak Ridge High School.

No other information was available at press time.

Kennett 74, Portageville 69

KENNETT -- The Portageville Bulldogs lost a tight one to Kennett Friday at Kennett High School, 74-69.

The Bulldogs raced out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter, 23-13, but was eventually caught by Kennett in the third quarter.

The Indians outscored Portageville 22-13 to start the second half as Kennett took a 48-44 lead into the final quarter.

"I thought we attacked their man-to-man defense pretty well in the beginning," Portageville coach Jason Irby said. "They went to that zone and we struggled attacking their zone for much of the second quarter. We had some turnovers and took some bad shots. That allowed the momentum to shift and helped them get back in the game."

Dion Foster led the Bulldogs with a game-high 35 points. Dominique Walker scored 13.
