SIKESTON -- George A. Stevens, 85, died Dec. 29, 2012, at his home.

Born Jan. 2, 1927, in Detroit, to the late John L. and Rose Everett Butler, in November 1928 he was adopted by Marion and Maggie Stevens who also preceded him in death.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the V.F.W. and the Crossroads of Hope Baptist Church. He was a nursing home administrator in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. In 1973 he moved to Sikeston where he was the administrator at Sikeston Convalescent Center.

On Feb. 20, 1965, in Danville, Ill., he married Marlene Starkey who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Betty Stevens of Orange Park, Fla., and Eric and Kathy Stevens of Sikeston; one brother, Russell Reed of Vancouver, British Columbia; one sister, Elaine Wilson of Campbell River, British Columbia; one grandson who was raised in the home, Shawn Stevens, and five other grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anne Stevens Harper, and two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Monday at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Rick Ramsey, pastor of Crossroads of Hope Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial with full military honors will follow at 3 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
