CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Joseph Hermon McNew Sr., 91, formerly of Sikeston, died Jan. 5, 2013, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.

Born Oct. 22, 1921, in Naylor, to the late William Benton and Rowenia Bass McNew, he was a licensed United Pentecostal minister and last attended the United Pentecostal Church in Ware, Ill. He retired from the General Motors car plant in St. Louis.

On April 15, 1945, in East Prairie, he married Zelma Murphy, who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: three sons, Joe McNew Jr. of Gordonville, Texas, Jerry McNew Sr. of Sikeston and Garry McNew of Taylor Springs, Ill.; one daughter Renate McNew-Johnson of Benton; and 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, William Z. McNew, and three sisters, two brothers, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ponder Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Tom Godwin, pastor of New Life Apostolic Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
