Sikeston wrestlers finish second at Vianney tournament

KIRKWOOD -- The Sikeston Bulldogs wrestling team finished second at the Vianney Invitational wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday.

The Bulldogs scored a team total of 163, close behind the tournament's first place team, St. Louis University High's (SLUH) 179.

"Our boys wrestled good," Sikeston wrestling coach Chris Lowe said. "I'm very proud of our freshmen who stepped up and competed very hard for the team."

Seven different Bulldogs fought for a first place finish but only Garrett Middleton and Jacob Stinnett brought home first place medals. Each went 2-0 Saturday.

Sikeston went into the weekend's tournament without three wrestlers and had to fill two spots with freshman Chase Rodgers, who finished second at the 126-pound division and John Paul Rowland.

The Bulldogs will travel to Ste. Genevieve on Wednesday to take on both Ste. Genevieve and Windsor in a dual at 4 p.m.
