SIKESTON -- Howard Smith, 79, died Jan. 7, 2013, at his home in Sikeston from an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 27, 1933, in Lilbourn, to the late Luther and Opal Turner Smith. He had worked for Sikeston Woodworking, had been the Water Plant Manager at Morehouse and recently retired from Sikeston Public Schools as a bus driver.
On June 18, 1950, he married Marliyn Lee Holland, who preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 1997.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert Smith and Shelia Carpenter and Michael and Pamela Smith of Sikeston; two daughters, Brenda and Jackie Jones of Doniphan and Barbara and Donald Hampton of Murray, Ky.; and 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Baker and Raymond Smith, one sister, Lillie Keasling, and two great-granddaughters, Vanessa Smith and Kaleigh Jones.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday Jan. 11 at the Ponder Funeral Home where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12.
Interment will follow at Sycamore Cemetery near Dexter.
