ORAN -- Led by a 24-point effort from junior Mikaela Blissett, Scott County Central took down Scott City Wednesday in the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament semifinals, 70-45.
"They came out and played well," Bravettes head coach Matt Limbaugh said. "We looked good in the press and caused some turnovers and played against a good Scott City team. Scott City's (Lyndsie) Robert is a heck of player.
"It was a tough challenge trying to contain her. We're lucky to get out of here with a win."
Scott Central came out on a 18-10 run in the first quarter and entered halftime with a nine-point lead.
They extended that lead to 11 points entering the fourth, at 43-32, before breaking out for a game-high 27 points in the final frame.
Limbaugh credited his team's defense with the strong late push to put the game away.
"When our press is working well and we're shutting off lanes it's very effective to have," he said. "When we're able to utilize and do it as we're taught we play a lot better as a team. If it doesn't, we look horrible."
Of Blissett's 24 points, nine came in her team's fourth quarter surge. Ann Dennis was second on the team with 16 points while Johniqua Fort and Derien Ditto contributed 11 points each to the Bravettes' cause.
Lindsey Rendleman scored 12 points in the second half for the Rams to finish with a team-high 14. Robert and Alicia Kern had 11 and 10 points respectively.
"We played extremely hard, but we had a few key turnovers and allowed way too many offensive rebounds," Scott City head coach Ricky Keller said. "We battled back there in the second quarter and I thought we were going to change the game, but we gave them a few big buckets and turned the ball over on the press."
