SIKESTON -- Freda W. Layton, age 81, went to be with her Lord on Jan. 14, 2013, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 23, 1931, near Sikeston, to the late Virgil Marion and Ellen Tidwell Williams, she was a member of Miner Baptist Church, had volunteered at Missouri Delta Medical Center and the Sikeston Depot and was employed by Ferrell Enterprises for 36 years before retiring.
On May 28, 1949, at the First Baptist Church in Piggott, Ark., she married A.J. "Jack" Layton who preceded her in death Oct. 23, 1995. Her daughter Sheila Jane Layton also preceded her in death on November 14, 1996
She was also preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Erma and George Freeman, a sister, Juanita Hollenbeck, and a brother, Van Williams.
Survivors include: a sister and brother-in-law, Melba and Frank Dillender of Fredericktown; one niece and husband, Marsha and Mike Pizzimenti; one nephew and wife, Greg and Kathy Dillender; one great-niece, Shanyn Lee; one great-nephew, Jim Dillender; and one great-great-niece, Abryana Lee.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Ponder Funeral Home. The Rev. Ron Shrum and the Rev. Mitch Jackson, ministers at Miner Baptist Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow at Sikeston Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Greg Dillender, Mike Pizzimenti, Jim Dillender, Mark Launius, Mike Myers and Scott Schlosser.
