Inclement weather postpones many local games

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Winter weather stormed into the area Tuesday afternoon halting most boys and girls basketball games scheduled that night.

The Scott-Mississippi Conference boys basketball tournament was postponed until tonight at Scott County Central High School. Second-seeded Scott Central was scheduled to take on No. 7 Delta as was No. 4 Chaffee against Kelly, the fifth seed.

Both of those games were rescheduled for tonight at 8 and 6:30 p.m. respectively.

The Sikeston girls basketball team was marked down to host Perryville Tuesday but was cancelled. A makeup date has been scheduled for next Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.

The New Madrid County Central boys and girls games were both postponed as well. The Eagles were scheduled to play Twin Rivers while the Lady Eagles were set to host Neelyville.

The Dexter Bearcats's home game against Puxico was axed because of the snow as was Risco's game against Cooter. The Portageville Bulldogs were set to travel to Senath-Hornersville but was called off as well.

On the girls side, Scott County Central and East Prairie's matchup was called off while the Charleston Lady Bluejay's road game against South Pemiscot was also cancelled.

Unless noted otherwise in the above text, information about possible makeup dates were not available before press time.
