DEXTER -- William E. "Will" Monroe, 68, died Jan. 16, 2013, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born April 22, 1944, in Averett, to the late Lawrence T. and Claudine Morse Monroe, he was a U.S. Army veteran and also served in the Missouri National Guard. He was a past member of the Amvets Post in Bloomfield and was currently a member of the Wappapello VFW Post 3418 and the Dexter Elks Lodge 2439, having served as Exalted Ruler from 1996-1997. He had worked at Dexter Aircraft Inc., Monarch Feed Mills and then retired from Tyson Foods as truck shop foreman and mechanic.
On Dec. 11, 1964, in Dexter, he married Helen Hoopingarner, and she survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Keith Monroe of Dexter; one daughter, Kari Standley of Bloomfield; one sister, Audrey Jackson of Madison, Miss.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Monroe.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Revs. Brett Wright and Roger Wooten officiating.
Burial with full military rites will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
