CHARLESTON - Henry Ervin Cates, 91, died at 5:30 a.m. Jan. 20, 2013, at the Charleston Manor.
Born March 12, 1921, in Doniphan to the late John Henry and Eliza May Belcher Cates, he had lived in Charleston most of his life and worked for Leather Black Farms until his retirement.
On July 5, 1941, he married Violet Marie Simmerman, who preceded him in death on April 5, 2007.
Three brothers, Earl Cates, Jearl Cates and Charlie Cates; and one sister, Ethel Kuykendall, also preceded him in death.
Surviving are: one son and daughter-in-law, Carl and LaDonna Cates of Charleston; two daughters, Violet Marie Cates and Naoma Fay Cates of Charleston; three grandchildren, Todd Cates, Cory Cates and Carla McMikle; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McMikle Funeral Home. Bill Bradley of Charleston will officiate.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.
