DEXTER -- Orval Payton, 79, died Jan. 19, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Jan. 31, 1933, in Aid, son of the late Crit Payton and Mary Martha Malin Payton, he worked in the shipping department of Purolator Filter Co. in Dexter and was of the Baptist belief.

On July 18, 1987, in Sturdivant, he married Irene Lee, who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Sherry Lynn Stephens of Kittanning, Pa., Sheila Yvonne Jibben of Dexter and Sandra Lee Slaughter of Puxico; one brother, Bobby Gene Payton of Dexter; two sisters, Lucille Pratt of Dexter and Thelma Sherman of North Las Vegas, Nev.; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Eugene Payton; two brothers, J.C. Payton and Kenneth Payton; and two sisters, Virginia Griffith and Louise Marlowe.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. The Revs. Gary Cooper and James Wade officiated.

Burial followed in the Harper Cemetery.
