NEW MADRID - Raising six children in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Diana and Mike Comer expected one day one of their children would be called to serve as a missionary.
When her 20-year-son Shane Comer received notification he would be a missionary from their Sikeston church to Korea for two years, Mrs. Comer said she was happy for him.
"I was ecstatic because I knew that was where he wanted to go," she said. "Young men don't go if they are not spiritually prepared to go. I think Shane is."
On Wednesday, Comer will leave home for St. Lake City, Utah, where he will begin the first part of his preparation in response to his call to mission work.
