Freshman Bulldogs advance to tourney finals

JACKSON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs ninth grade basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Jackson tournament Thursday with a 49-42 semifinal win over Notre Dame.

The Bulldogs (9-0) will play Poplar Bluff on Saturday at noon for the tournament championship.

Sikeston started the game by obtaining a 15-13 lead after the first quarter. Holding Notre Dame to just six points in the second, the Bulldogs took advantage and wound up leading 31-19 at the half.

Sikeston's Juwan Kimble scored eight of his 10 in the second quarter to propel the Bulldogs with their biggest lead of the night.

Although down by 11, Notre Dame outscored Sikeston by five in the second half making things interesting towards the end.

After the third quarter, Sikeston was clinging to a 39-31 advantage and was able to withstand Notre Dame's push.

Cedric McIntyre led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Earnest Fobbs added nine.

On Wednesday, the Sikeston ninth grade defeated Saxony Lutheran 52-19 to open tournament play.

Earnest Fobbs led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

MALDEN -- The Charleston Lady Bulldogs make quick work of the Malden Lady Wave Thursday on the road.

E'Neikqua Ewing led the charge with 24 points. Sierra Frazier added 18 points and Juwanna Walker scored 11.

The Lady Bluejays (12-4) led 22-6 after the first quarter. After scoring 28 and holding Malden to seven, Charleston found themselves ahead comfortably 50-13 at halftime.
