Football 101: A primer for game-day fans

SIKESTON -- Most football fans wait all season long to watch the Super Bowl, but for some people, the Sunday event is the one time a year they watch the game or at least try to watch the game.

For those who fall into the once-a-year category or are new to watching the sport, Andy McGill, athletic director and assistant football coach at Sikeston High School, took some time to explain the basics of the very complex sport.

"The object of the game is the team with the ball wants to score on the opposite side of the field in the end zone."

There are 11 players on offense and 11 players on defense. The game begins with a kickoff, which basically means that one team kicks the ball to the other at the start of the game.
