Hoggatt tops district field, Bulldogs advance to sectional

FARMINGTON -- Kirk Hoggatt topped all golfers with a 76 and the Sikeston Bulldogs golf team finished second during the Class 3, District 1 tournament Monday at Crown Pointe Golf Club in Farmington.

Sikeston finished with a team score of 339 advancing them to Sectionals.

Gabe Wheeler finished in third place with a score of 78 while Conner Landers topped out at 12th with an 86.

All three Sikeston golfers made the all-district team with their individual scores.

PARK HILLS -- After four golfers finished in the top 25 during the Class 2, District 1 Tournament Monday, the Kelly Hawks qualified as a team for Sectionals.

Kelly finished third in district play as a team, shooting a combined 384 to be edged out for second place by Arcadia Valley, who shot 380. The top spot went to St. Pius with a team score of 375.

Derrick Garner shot a 92 to lead the Hawks while teammate Josh Roberts was right behind him with a 93. Brandon Housman shot a 99 and Jacob Riley and Drew Keen finished with scores of 100 and 117 respectively. Garner, Roberts, Housman and Riley all qualified for Sectionals.

Three Kelly players made their way on to the district's all-tournament team, including Garner, Roberts and Housman.

TENNIS

Notre Dame 9, Sikeston 0

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs' tennis team fell 9-0 to visiting Notre Dame on Monday.

Jimmy Hines was the closet Sikeston netter to recording a victory, but ultimately fell to Notre Dame's Webb Marshall 8-6.

One the junior varsity side, Sikeston fell 1-7 with the pairs matchup of Anthony Le and Davion Davis picking up a 6-4 win to keep their team from getting shutout.

BASEBALL

Oran 10, Bloomfield 7

ORAN -- The Oran Eagles fought back from a 7-2 deficit to defeat Bloomfield 10-7 Monday at Oran High School.

The Eagles capped their comeback with five runs in the fifth inning to take the 10-7 score.

Kody Moore and Jacob Priggel led the Eagles with two hits apiece. Priggel knocked in three runs to lead Oran in RBIs.

Seth Ressel earned the win on the mound throwing six innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks. He also struck out seven. Alex Heuring picked up the save after working the final inning allowing one hit and striking out one.

Scott City 2, Chaffee 0

SCOTT CITY -- Going seven full innings Scott City starter Ryan Brock guided the Rams to a 2-0 win over Chaffee on Monday.

Brock allowed five hits and six walks while striking out three giving Scott City the Scott-Mississippi Conference regular season title.

As part of their five-hit effort, the Rams got a single from Jonathan McFall and a double from Zach Carlyle. Each player also drove in a run.

Brett Dirnberger and Brock also had hits.

Taking the loss, Cody Johnson went six innings where he allowed both runs on five hits and four walks while fanning two.

SOFTBALL

NMCC 7, Holcomb 0

HOLCOMB -- For the second time this season New Madrid County Central pitcher Michaela Townsend was perfect.

Going all seven innings against the Holcomb Lady Hornets on Monday, Townsend struck out six batters and didn't allow a runner on base for her second perfect game of the season defeating Holcomb 7-0.

Mary Clara Hayes was 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored while Caroline Fowler had two hits, including a double and run scored.
