SHS netters fall 5-1 to Knights at team district tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston Bulldogs boys tennis team lost their first round match against Farmington during the Class 2, District 1 team tournament Monday at Cape Central High School.

Sikeston fell 5-1 as a team, which was a best of three format.

Sikeston's only win came from Mark Jones who defeated Farmington's James Kahn 6-2, 6-1.

"The season is over for our team," Sikeston head coach Russ Dial said. "(Jones) played very well and has become a competitive tennis player for us with lots of future potential."

Sikeston (0-11) will still have a chance to send players to state during the individual tournament Saturday at Cape Central.
