SIKESTON -- A Sikeston man has been arrested for the shooting death of his wife early today.

Around 3 a.m. today, Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a call in reference to a domestic disturbance on John R. Boulevard in Sikeston, according to Capt. Jim McMillen, public information office for DPS. Upon officers' arrival, they located the body of a deceased 26-year-old Sikeston woman whose name has not yet been released.

The victim appeared to have been shot with a firearm and was alone in the home when police arrived, McMillen said.

The SEMO Major Case Squad was activated and investigators began working the case. Approximately two hours later, Sikeston DPS located the victim's spouse and took him into custody. No formal charges have been filed.

McMillen said the matter is still under investigation, and no other information can be released at this time.
