Prep Roundup: SHS netters blank Lady Jays, Brucker leads Kelly

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston tennis team swept visiting Charleston Tuesday 9-0 in a varsity only match at the Sikeston Public School Tennis Courts.

This is Sikeston's second victory of the season.

"We played well," Sikeston tennis coach Russ Dial said. "If this type of play continues we should fair well against (Poplar) Bluff."

Sikeston's next match will be against the Lady Mules today in Poplar Bluff.

SOFTBALL

Kelly 13, Twin Rivers 0

BROSELEY -- Kristi Brucker led Kelly at the plate and with her arm Tuesday as the Lady Hawks blanked Twin Rivers 13-0 on the road.

Kelly went ahead 4-0 after two innings and essentially put the game away in the top of the third after hanging eight runs on the scoreboard. They finished with 16 hits.

Brucker pitched all five innings and struck out three. She also went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a double.

Morgan LeDure went 3 for 3 while Stephanie Worth had two doubles and two RBIs. Samantha Ratledge, Jade Rampley and Alexis Dock each had two hits apiece.

Kelly (11-3) will host Cape Central today at 4 p.m.

FALL BASEBALL

Risco 11, Gideon 4

RISCO -- The Risco Tigers fall baseball team picked up their second win of the season Tuesday beating Gideon 11-4.

Jordon Pavy hit his seventh home run in the last 10 games during the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning to quickly give the Tigers an early advantage. Pavy finished 2 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs.

Josh Earnheart threw a complete game on the mound striking out six, walking seven and allowing four hits. He also went 3 for 4 with a double and a 2-run home run in the sixth inning, which was the first of his career.

Brandon Bixler had a single and reached base in all four of his plate appearances, freshman Londyn Black added a double and RBI while senior John Pikerton also added a single and an RBI.

Risco trailed the Bulldogs 3-2 for most of the way, but scored six runs in the fifth inning to take control. The Tigers finished with eight hits as a team.

Risco (2-8) will travel to North Pemiscot Friday for their next game.

VOLLEYBALL

Dexter 2, Scott City 0

DEXTER (SMNS) -- The Dexter Bearcats varsity volleyball program has yet to experience a let down following its second-place finish at the 48-team Dig for Life Classic Saturday night.

Dexter, fresh off a straight set 25-9, 25-16, road win at Bloomfield Monday night, returned home and cruised past Scott City 25-12, 25-4, Tuesday.

The Bearcats never trailed either set.

Dexter jumped out to a 10-0 lead in set 1 and 14-2 lead in set 2.
